Visit a family farm in the rural west of Ireland, owned by Siobhan and her family, that produces award-winning goat cheese. After a career as a teacher, Siobhan returned to her ancestral land after she realized how important it was for her to protect the land and community. Siobhan started a goat farm where she now makes handcrafted artisanal goat cheese that she sells both locally at local food outlets as well as internationally. Feeding on local grass and herbs particular to the region, the goats produce a distinctive milk that yields a delicious, tangy cheese. This award-winning cheese is sold at Neal’s Yard, one of the most well known specialist cheese shops in London! Your goat farm and cheese tasting experience is led by Siobhan or Grainne, one of her trusted employees who has worked at the farm for ten years. Meet your host at her goat farm for a farm tour that includes a walk through the pastures, a presentation on cheese making and production, and a cheese tasting with an optional wine pairing. On the farm tour, walk amongst the goats (weather permitting) and learn about the different breeds and history of the farm. During visits in February through April, you will enjoy the spring kidding season and have the chance to feed the farm’s goats. After your tour, visit the kitchen for a special cheese-making demonstration. End your experience with a cheese tasting of the different varieties of goat cheese produced on the farm. Learn about the different flavors and textures of cheese during this tasting which will also include a selection of Irish crackers, local preserves and chutneys.
